The story of the Superstar
The 1969 Superstar was the first low-top basketball shoe with a leather upper, and its rubber shell toe protected players in an era of canvas. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wore it; then Run-DMC turned it into hip-hop's first sneaker anthem, "My Adidas," and earned the first non-athlete sneaker endorsement in history. The shell toe has since sold in the hundreds of millions. It's not a trend; it's furniture in the house of sneaker culture.
