The story of the Air Foamposite One

Eric Avar's 1997 Foamposite One replaced stitched panels with a single molded polyurethane shell, a manufacturing moonshot that cost Nike millions to tool. Penny Hardaway adopted it on sight. The glossy blue Royal original looked like nothing else in sports, and the model became a cult phenomenon, especially in Washington DC, where Foams are practically civic dress. The Galaxy pair's 2012 All-Star release caused near-riots. Heavy, weird and beloved, the Foam is Nike's great unrepeatable experiment.
