The story of the Old Skool
The 1977 Old Skool introduced Vans's side stripe, originally doodled by founder Paul Van Doren and called the jazz stripe. Its suede-canvas mix and waffle grip made it the eternal skate shoe, and its black-and-white colorway became a global uniform crossing skate, punk, hip-hop and high fashion. Few designs work this hard while changing this little.
